If the Start Virtual Camera button isn’t showing in the Controls dock, follow these instructions to install the virtual camera. You can also remove the virtual camera if it conflicts with other software.

Windows

1. in File Explorer, go to C:\Program Files\obs-studio\data\obs-plugins\win-dshow
2. right-click virtualcam-install.bat and select Run as Administrator

Follow the instructions at the left, but use virtualcam-uninstall.bat (note the un) instead.

If you have installed OBS Studio to a different folder or you are using portable mode:

1. right-click your OBS Studio shortcut and select Open File Location
2. in File Explorer, right-click virtualcam-install.bat and select Run as Administrator

macOS

The virtual camera will be installed when you first click on Start Virtual Camera.

Delete /Library/CoreMediaIO/Plug-Ins/DAL/obs-mac-virtualcam.plugin.

macOS (OBS Studio 30.0+, macOS 13.0+)

When opening OBS for the first time, you will get a promt «System Extension Blocked». Click «Open System Settings». Alternatively, open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Security.

In the box «System software from application ‘OBS’ was blocked from loading», click «Allow».

Authenticate to allow the system extension.

Uninstall OBS Studio to uninstall the virtual camera.

Linux

On Linux, the virtual camera is powered by v4l2loopback. Install the v4l2loopback-dkms package.

macOS compatibility

OBS Studio 30 and higher running on macOS 13 (Ventura) and higher include a new virtual camera component that is compatible with all Mac applications.

The version of the virtual camera component used for macOS 12 and prior may be incompatible with some applications. We recommend using the virtual camera with Chromium-based browsers (such as Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge) for best compatibility, especially for online services such as Discord.

I trialled OBS and the OBS Virtual Cam for a potential setup but no longer required it. I uninstalled both programs but the 4 virtual cams installed are available for selection in Zoom.

How do I remove these cameras for my laptop?

• Windows 10 version 1909
• Zoom version 4.6.10 (20033.0407)

4. You should find some registry entries with OBS Camera name

I have the same problem on Windows 10, the OBS-Camera is still visible in my meet sessions.
There is no registry entry named «OBS-Camera»
Any hint welcome to get rid of this ghost camera please.

I am having this same issue. Previously I had «obs-camera» and «OBS Virtual Camera» as different options. Now after uninstalling the plugin, the «obs-camera» option is gone, but «OBS Virtual Camera» still lingers. I cannot figure out how to remove it.

On Win10x64, I did a complete uninstall of OBS vrtualcam, ndi plugin, and OBS Studio itself. It left behind one single file:

This got my hopes up, as it seemed to match the criteria. So I ran:

then deleted it. Rebooted. Back up. still no luck. «OBS Virtual Camera» is still a phantom option in Zoom and Discord.

Okay more sleuthing. I realized I didn’t have «entire string» checked on registry searches. I found the following location matches for «OBS Virtual Camera»:

I renamed each of them to see which would change, and the third one was the culprit, at least as far as appearing in the camera selections. Each of these was connected to something called «VFW Capture Class Manager» which I am unsure of. Initial google searches also mention a lot of malware, but that’s really not my area of expertise, so whatever.

Anyway, I removed those keys and no longer see the phantom camera.

Welp, nevermind. I reinstalled OBS 26 with the current release, and the camera came back. Is it now part of the core application?

A couple of the specific strings didn’t match my system but using the search phrase «obs-camera» I was able to find all of the keys.

Deleting all keys with the phrase «obs-camera» removed the 4 OBS Cameras from Zoom.

I tried all of the suggested things above and I was unable to remove this program. Instead, I create another issue where I have another device called «nameless»! This stupid program won’t let me remove it! I tried uninstalling it using this method:

regsvr32 /u «C:\Program Files\obs-studio\data\obs-plugins\win-dshow\obs-virtualcam-module32.dll»
Both the 32bit and the 64bit versions.

Deleting it through the registry, and practically everything.

This one keeps popping up even after I delete it:

Anything you can do to help me would be great.

Is this some type of malware or something and how do I get it off of my computer.

PS: This whole issue is happening in Zoom but it still hasn’t removed from the tool bar in OBS.

Edit: I was able to remove the one called «nameless» but I still have the other one called «OBS Virtual Camera» there. For anybody who is having the same issue with the first part, I had to restart my computer and then that made the option to uninstall it appear in the regular Windows uninstall area. It also still appears in the tool area of OBS. I have since remove OBS completely after this issue and the camera still appears in Zoom. Any help to remove the «OBS Virtual Camera» is greatly appreciated.
